Experience
|
- Concise, punchy, adaptable writing style forjournalism and public relations
- News, features and copywriting for anything from independent magazines to in-house publications or promotional literature
- Specialist knowledge of the health, local government and social care sectors gained through 20 years' experience in journalism and PR in these services
- Editing skills - including translating complex or bureaucratic language or jargon into writing aimed at a general audience
- Devising PR plans and strategies and advising on reputational implications
|
- 15 years as a journalist on magazines aimed at people working in health, local government, social care and the public sector
- Having begun as a reporter I have worked extensively as news editor and features editor on several magazines - including Nursing Times and Local Government Chronicle
- Sourced interviewees and provided copy for case studies for Department of Health initiatives through the GovernmentÕs in-house PR agency, the Central Office ofInformation
- Press Office experience in public sector bodies dealing with sensitive issues - e.g. the Audit Commission and a strategic health authority
- Planning and advising on media work and reputational issues for an NHS programme, the National End of Life Care Programme
Over the last two decades I have gained insight into how the public sector, notably the NHS and local government, work and how to spot a story from either side of thefence. I can develop stories from small beginnings in the form of news or featuresfor magazines while pointing out potential difficulties as a PR person for a public body.
My writing and editing skills, which always place an emphasis on plain English, allow me to write or edit a range of non-magazine copy - such as reports andleaflets and for newsletters or membership bulletins.
